4 mental health disorders treated at Rose Hill Center

A mental health disorder can be challenging to manage alone. And no one knows that better than our founders, Dan and Rosemary Kelly, who, in the 1980s, had an adult son diagnosed with schizophrenia. In fact, it was their exhaustive search for a comprehensive treatment program, combined with compassionate follow-up care, that led to the Rose Hill Center we know today. Now one of the largest mental health treatment campuses in the country, Rose Hill has become a positive, nurturing environment where people can achieve lifelong results that will help them navigate their mental health disorder.

Here, we’ve pioneered treatments to help you or your loved overcome their symptoms, build life skills and achieve a positive future. For people suffering from schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, bipolar disorder and borderline personality disorder, this program is often the first step toward long-term stability and independence.

Schizophrenia

Schizophrenia — one of the disorders treated at Rose Hill — is a severe mental health condition that affects how a person thinks, feels and behaves, causing severe disruptions in daily life. People suffering from schizophrenia may have paranoid delusions, hallucinations, unusual behavior, and disorganized thinking and speech. And while there is no cure, treatment can make a considerable difference. Typically lifelong, our evidence-based treatments for schizophrenia include cognitive-behavioral therapy, individual therapy, family therapy, peer support and medication management – coupled with a supportive and caring environment that promotes recovery.

Schizoaffective disorder

Schizoaffective disorder is a combination of schizophrenia and mood disorder symptoms, such as major depression or bipolar disorder. Individuals with this disorder may have hallucinations, delusions and mood swings. Here, treatments for schizoaffective disorder are similar to those for schizophrenia, involving a combination of medication management and therapy sessions to address all symptoms. Additionally, the center provides social and recreational activities to help individuals develop healthy coping mechanisms.

Bipolar disorder

Bipolar disorder is a common mental health condition that affects an individual’s mood, energy and ability to function. Individuals with bipolar disorder may experience periods of manic episodes and depression, with dramatic mood swings between the two states. At Rose Hill Center, the treatment programs for bipolar disorder include medication management, cognitive-behavioral therapy and psychoeducation about the disorder. In addition, our dedicated staff emphasizes socialization and assists patients in building and maintaining the skills they need to live independently.

Borderline personality disorder

Borderline personality disorder is a mental health condition characterized by instability in mood, behavior and self-image. The symptoms can be severe, including intense emotional pain, fear of abandonment, self-destructive behaviors and unstable relationships. Our highly personalized treatment programs include a variety of therapies and medication management.

For all patients at Rose Hill, our experts also offer 24-hour mental health support, appointments with psychiatrists and case managers, support, counseling, and advice, life skills training, and lifestyle management. And with the right combination of all the above, individuals can learn to manage their symptoms and lead fulfilling lives.
